How It Works

Have you ever:

  • Been afraid when someone in authority asks to see you?
  • Been angry without knowing why?
  • Had a conversation and ended up not sure of what just happened?

  • Made the same “wrong” decision more than once?

If so, we have some good news – or bad news, depending on your perspective: you’re normal! Normal people know what it’s like to have said and done things they wished they could take back; normal people have experienced loneliness, sadness, anger or fear; normal people wish they could learn to set boundaries, communicate effectively and build better relationships!

Have you ever been through another “self-help” program or read books to help you deal with an issue? Most of us have! After finishing the program, how long did that change last? For most of us, the answer is: Not very long! Why, because most programs like this focus on the surface - the behavior - and never ask where the behavior comes from. That’s what makes The Trek different:

The Trek is a "belief modification" system.

A lot of programs focus on the surface issues and provide strategies to change the behavior without asking the question, “why”. While these programs can result in healthier-looking lives, the change may seem effective on the surface, with stress and frustration remaining below. Change that only “looks good” but isn’t truly complete will not last very long.

The Trek focuses, instead, on the underlying belief system. The curriculum guides the participant through the process of identifying their rules for the way the world operates and how they respond when those rules are broken. The tools teach the participant to recognize their thought processes, body responses, emotional states, and resulting behaviors. This gives the participant information on what is actually happening, without judging good or bad, right or wrong. Once the participant understands their automatic responses, they can begin to make the positive changes they need.

So, instead of simply asking you to behave differently, The Trek asks you to believe differently.

To do this, we have three steps:


Our process encourages you to start with the basics. These include:

  • Do you choose to act or react to situations?
  • How do you view the world?
  • What do you expect from others?
  • What do you expect from yourself?
  • What do others think of you?
  • What do you think of yourself?

The Trek walks you through the steps of identifying your behaviors, and thoughts and how they impact you and those around you.


Once you have recognized areas where you’d like to improve, we help you revise the old, unhealthy definitions by replacing them with ones based on the truth. When you begin to understand who you are, you are able to stand confidently in your new personal definitions and handle conflict, communication, and relationships in a way that honors all involved - including you!


The final step is to take your new-found strength and energy and direct it towards rebuilding relationships, setting solid boundaries dedicated to healthy growth, and reaching for your full potential.
